Time Machines Do Not Work

Why Time Machines Do Not Work
(And Why Terry Still Owes Us Back-Pay Since 1985)

Here at terrywebbs.com, we pride ourselves on pushing the absolute boundaries of pseudo-science and operational agility. Naturally, our R&D department spent the better part of this morning attempting to construct a fully functioning temporal displacement matrix out of an old dial-up modem and a broken toaster. The results were catastrophic, leading to our definitive corporate position: Time machines absolutely do not work.

If you are currently holding a deposit ticket for our upcoming "Retroactive Content Deployment Cruise," don't take it personally, but we have officially cancelled the launch. It turns out the space-time continuum is significantly less cooperative than our marketing team suggested. We are delivering this crushing disappointment to you with 100% confidence and zero refunds.

The Chronological Synergy Problem

The primary reason temporal mechanics fail in a modern corporate setting comes down to basic database infrastructure. Physics dictates that if you travel backward in time, you must account for several structural anomalies:

  • The Grandfather Paradigm Shift: If you go back to 1985 and convince your grandfather to invest in apple orchards instead of tech specs, you cease to exist, which completely ruins our quarterly user-retention metrics.
  • The Cookie Accumulation Cascade: Traveling into the past carrying modern tracking pixels creates a temporal loop. If you visit medieval Europe while carrying our Toaster Cookie Integration, an entire village of peasants will suddenly experience synchronised phantom pocket vibrations. It’s a massive liability.
  • The Bird Migration Conflict: Our infrastructure relies entirely on the Pigeon Optimisation Protocol. If you travel to a century before we calibrated the atmospheric pressure nodes, our server routing collapses into a black hole of un-routed coos.

Case Study: Stephen’s Temporal Experiment

To prove our theory, we forced our lead operations buffer, Stephen, to test our prototype machine—which was essentially just an expensive ergonomic chair hooked up to a car battery and a 1980s handheld console.

We instructed Stephen to travel back to last Tuesday to stop himself from deleting the main server node. He sat in the chair, squeezed his eyes shut, and let his odd-looking face contort into a grimace of pure, unadulterated concentration. For three minutes, his features shifted in ways that defied basic human geometry, looking less like a time traveler and more like a melted candle trying to remember its password.

When he opened his eyes, he was still exactly where he started, except his coffee was cold and he had somehow managed to lock himself out of his corporate email accounts for the next forty years. This is the only temporal displacement we have ever successfully achieved.

Frequently Asked (Future) Questions

Since we cannot go forward in time to answer your questions, we have compiled them retroactively below:

  • Q: But what if I use a lightning bolt to power the grid?
A: We tried that. It just blew the fuses in Stephen's section and forced him to do his work using a pad of paper and a crayon. Production efficiency actually went up by 12%.
  • Q: Can I at least use a time machine to skip Monday mornings?
A: No. Mondays are structurally hardcoded into the fabric of reality by Terry to ensure maximum employee existential dread.
  • Q: Why don't future versions of Terry visit us?
A: Because future Terry has already taken your VIP membership fees and is currently hiding on a beach in a timeline that doesn't have an internet connection.

In conclusion, stop trying to fix your past mistakes. Accept that your browser history is permanent, buy the appliance your cookies are screaming for, and live in the present. It’s the only timeline we are legally allowed to charge you for.

You go back in time and still you do the same shit over!!!
I have concluded you can't change the past, but you can change the future.

Having an effect on the present will cause the future to map out very different!
However, you need to be aware of this effect otherwise you will miss the cause.
Hence the cause and effect scenario...

I was trying to change the events of Friday night, I went back in time only a few hours.
It was very bewildering at first, when I eventually found my footing I realised I was still doing the
same shit over.

Friday night still turned out the same in the end no matter what I did. Time travel sucks.

Okay if I can't change the past let’s try and change the future!
To do this I would need to alter the present, this cause will then affect the future.
Seems logical however it’s not an easy task.

So I started a cause just waiting on the effect......
Got some very defensive results, not sure how this is panning out.
I didn't foresee a counter attack, I should have stuck to feelings rather than quoting motivations. Motivations will always provoke a counter attack, feelings alone will get more emotional returns. I can't even get this future cause and effect thing to work either.
I am shit at time travel and when it comes to relationships, I nit got a clue!
There is no 'doubt' about my future, it is certainly full of nit!

Life moves in one direction and you can easily live in three different time dimensions in your head, this I do very regularly!
The past
The future
The present

If you live in the past, you’re stuck in “why” mode. That means you always think about why things happened. A recipe for unhappiness. If you live in the future, you live in “what if” mode. That state of mind causes anxiety about everything that MIGHT happen in the future. Again, that’s a recipe for living a timid doubtful life. You also know that there’s only one ACTUAL time dimension; the present. Why don’t we live in the present? There are millions of things that prevent us from living in real time.

One thing that might help you let go of the past and future is to understand this:
Life keeps moving forward - it doesn’t care what you think or do, or how long you spend in bed at the weekend, life goes on no matter what, so don't waste your time on stuff you can’t control, and so ends the doubt!
