The Top Flat

WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF THE TOP FLAT?
The top flat flat is one of those trends that came on to the market scene with a big bang and has consistently stuck around ever since. This trend first made its appearance in the 1980s in a small military-style hamlet inspired form, wherein with its winding stairwells and low ceilings, bricked exterior side walls and the top flat stood above all other levels, clean, and uniform style. It’s no surprise that this eye-catching look quickly gained popularity and has remained since its inception.
While there are a few variations and slightly different top flats, the key characteristics include high sided walls and a gable style roof top. Not to be confused with The Flat Above.
